Jumyo 寿命 School Katana かたな in Shirasaya 白鞘 with high grade Blue and Silver Koshirae 拵え Ikeda samurai family (池田氏)

Jumyo (寿命) school Katana blade:

Nagasa: 68.2 cm.
Sori: 1.5 cm.
Moto-haba: 3.2 cm.
Saki-haba: 2,2 cm.
Moto-gasane: 0.6 cm.
Saki-gasane: 0.45 cm.

Period: Mid Edo Period (about year 1780)
Location: Mino Province (present-day Gifu prefecture)

It is a strong Katana blade with elegant lines as is characteristic of this famous School.

The general blade condition is very good as can be seen in the pictures.
Polished old but fairly well preserved recently serviced by a Togishi master.
The blade retains the traditional razor edge.

Jumyo (寿命) school:
The famous Junyo School has its origins from Yamato and moved to Mino province in the Kamakura period (1185-1333). The tradition continued for centuries, right up until the end of the Edo period in 1868.
This sword is attested at the Jumyo School, meaning life span or longevity. As it’s message was so hopeful, their swords were prized as celebrated gifts to Daimyo (great) families amongst the Samurai society during the Edo period.
JUMYO(Toshinaga) 寿命 school, it’s founder was born in Seki town, Mino province in Tensho 8 (1580), real name was Kondo Sukezaemon 近藤助左衛門.
He had moved to Kiyosu castle town during Keicho (1596-1614) period and the enjoyed Tango-no-kami 丹後守 title in Kanei 2 (1625).
JUMYO school had been prospered in 5 generations during Edo period under the patronage of Owari Tokugawa clans.
JUMYO(Toshinaga) 寿命, it exactly means [happy long life] so that most of Samurais treasured JUMYO works.
